Muscle Venous Pump Flexed

This image illustrates the function of the muscle-venous pump. It shows a leg with the sectioned popliteal vein passing between the gastrocnemius muscles. The muscles are in a flexed state, pushing the vein so that circulation continues upward, while the valves within prevent any backflow from occurring.
