Inhibition of Penicillin Binding
In this image we see the inhibition of penicillin-binding proteins occurring at a site near the phospholipid bilayer of a cell. Penicillin-binding proteins, or PBPs, are essential to the synthesis of an essential cell wall element, peptidoglycan. With peptidoglycan synthesis inhibited and thus cell wall structure perverted, further complications occur, eventually leading to lysis and the death of the bacterial cell.
