Bacteria Flagellae

This image depicts an illustrated rod-shaped bacteria cell with numerous flagella projecting outward in all directions. Flagella are projections of the plasma membrane strengthened by microtubules and serve for motility functions in cells. Though typically few in number, peritrichous bacteria such as this one have flagella extending in many directions.
